The electrical distribution system is one of the most critical sections of the power system as it directly connects the consumers. However, the current Nepal distribution system is highly under-equipped with a total system loss of around 10%, and suffers from frequent outages. Furthermore, the addition of distributed energy resources and electric vehicles will further aggravate the situation. Distribution automation (DA) with the help of smart metering and Al has the potential to strengthen the electric distribution system.
